Model Tuberculosis Centers

There are three Model Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Centers in the United States. The Centers are supported by a Cooperative Agreement from the CDC Division of Tuberculosis Elimination. The goals of each center are to decrease tuberculosis (TB) mortality through diagnosis, treatment, prevention programs, training and technical assistance, and library and resource services.

    Charles P. Felton National Tuberculosis Center TOP

    The Charles P. Felton National Tuberculosis Center at Harlem Hospital was established in 1993 with goals to develop and implement training programs tailored to the local community and to specific groups of health care workers, and to develop and utilize innovative methods for the prevention, treatment, and elimination of TB through a community partnership.

    The Center provides many opportunities for health, public safety, and social work professionals to receive training on TB prevention and treatment. The faculty consists of teaching staff from Columbia University, the New York City Department of Health, and other academic institutions within and outside of the New York area. The Harlem Center is also a site for a variety of distance learning programs.

    Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center TOP

    The goal of the Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center is to decrease tuberculosis morbidity through training, technical assistance, demonstration projects, and enhanced program activities. The San Francisco Center is a collaborative effort among the San Francisco Department of Public Health; the University of California, San Francisco - Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine; and the Tuberculosis Control Branch, California State Department of Health Services.

    Professional Education & Training

    New Jersey Medical School National Tuberculosis Center TOP

    The New Jersey Medical School National Tuberculosis Center at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) was established in January 1993 in response to the resurgence of tuberculosis in the United States. It is a joint project of the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and the New Jersey Department of Health. The Center operates under the direction of Lee B. Reichman, MD, MPH.
